Lash extensions aftercare advice

After all the time, effort and money you’ve splurged into your luxurious lash extensions, you want to make sure that you won’t ruin them, and your lashes stay fresh and beautiful for the longest time possible. To do this, you’ll need to take some precautionary measures and keep up with some basic practices. Here’s a guide to help you take care of your gorgeous lashes.

1. Be mindful of the first 24 hours

These are absolutely critical since you’ve just gotten your eyelash extensions intricately glued and the bond needs time to set.  Steam and water will affect the process– avoid water on eyes and hot shower. Within 24 hours of the procedure steam may affect the bonding. Avoid the pool and the gym too- not unless you want your lashes floating in the water or smeared on your face! Try and sleep on your back to prevent any wreckage as you toss and turn. You can purchase satin pillow cases – they are so pleasant and prevent your extensions get caught by fluffs of the regular pillow cases.

2. Be gentle

1 to 5 lashes fall out every day due to the lash cycle, which clearly spells out that eyelash extensions should be applied with highest precision to prevent from premature shedding. To reduce fallout, resist the temptation to rub your eyes or pull on them.

3. Avoid excessively hot baths, showers or steam rooms

The high temperatures will disintegrate the adhesive which will ultimately compromise their longevity.

4. Avoid oil based products

Oil products will break down the bond causing the lashes to drop out prematurely. If you can’t avoid them altogether, keep them as far as possible from the eyes. You can use eye cream of course, but better to do that in the morning. You may have to give up waterproof makeup as well, as you’ll need oil based cleansers to remove it. Never use mascara on your lash extensions!

5. Do not use metal eyelash curlers

Your lash extensions have a perfect, effortless curl.  A lash curler will only create undue stress on the lashes and may even clamp them!

6. Get an aftercare kit for your semi-permanent lash extensions

Lash extensions after-kits are generally packaged with eyelash cleanser, oil-free make up remover and other oil-free products which will help you keep your lashes on for longer. Remember to wash your extensions with these products EVERY DAY!!! As natural skin oils (sebum) might affect your lash extensions adhesive, they will shed prematurely.

7. Comb those beautiful lashes out

To ward off criss-crossing or straying lashes, simply use mascara wand to comb them, don’t be afraid to give a good brush, you can only make them to look more “fluffy”.
